There are differences in serval (a subspecies of wildcat) and domestic cats that make breeding Savannah cats challenging. Servals have longer pregnancies than domestics. Some male servals have trouble mating with domestics. Male Savannahs are usually sterile until the fifth generation. Female Savannahs are fertile from generation 1 forward. Savannahs have higher rates of fetal death than domestics.
